ARTreat Highlights

Researchers from the RWTH Aachen University have set up a detailed numerical model of the cardiovascular system in order to simulate the blood flow and its impact on cardiovascular diseases.

A physiological flow situation is achieved by generating the geometry for the model from imaging volume date (CT, MRI) and conversion to a 3D computer model. A physical model of the same geometry is produced by Rapid prototyping in order to enable PIV-measurements for experimental validation of the numerical results.

FORTH will participate at the 22nd ELEGEIA Hellenic Conference in General Practice, Corfu, Greece, 7-11 April 2010, presenting ARTool in the course: "Role of bioengineer in CAD"

Atherosclerosis' connected diseases are the leading cause of death in Europe, accounting for over two million deaths each year. ARTreat project is driven by the vision to create a patient-specific model of atherosclerotic plaque evolution that will be basis for a new screening test envisaged to be available in a few yerars from now. The vision of the project is supplemented by its ambition to provide cardiologists with tools that will be able to support them before, during and after a clinical intervention and also offer a virtual intervention training environment to both experience doctors and novices helping them to enhance their skills and hands-on experience.
